Gilad Kfir, a 48-year-old wildlife photographer who lived in Moshav Netiv HaAsara, had documented the rocket barrages fired from Gaza at Israeli cities and surrounding villages for years. On Saturday morning, as the red alert sounded in his moshav, he prepared to capture the rocket attacks on his community. At that time, Gilad’s partner, Jinky Bolivar, a 38-year-old nurse from the Philippines, was with her patient in the country's north. Jinky was in the late stages of her pregnancy and was preparing to give birth to their first daughter.

Terrorists infiltrated Netiv HaAsara from the air using motorized paragliders
Terrorists invaded the moshav from the air using motorized paragliders, and Gilad photographed them. Shortly after, he captured images of rocket barrages and their interceptions.

Gilad's father, Meir Chaim Yosef, sheltered in his home's safe room in Gan Yavne and called his son. Gilad informed him that he did not intend to go to work in Kiryat Gat and continued filming the rocket interceptions over his Moshav.

Lior Eliasi, Gilad's close friend, called to check if Gilad was coming to work. Gilad replied that he wouldn’t make it and would stay in the moshav. He mentioned that he owned a gun and had 30 bullets. About fifteen minutes later, Gilad’s friend, Tamar Amit, asked if he was taking pictures of the parachutists. Gilad replied, 'Just one.'
Terrorists attempted to break into the house of one of the families in the moshav. They noticed Gilad in a nearby courtyard and opened fire on him. He was killed on the spot, holding his camera and his gun.

Gilad's parents and close friends tried to locate him, but their efforts were in vain. 'I’m worried,' his friend Tamar texted, urging him to write back.
Gilad's parents arrived at Lahav 433 (Israel’s crime-fighting police unit) offices to provide his DNA sample and were informed that Gilad had been murdered. A few hours earlier, Amnon Ziv, a fellow resident of Gilad’s moshav and the security officer of the Ashkelon Beach Regional Council, had found Gilad’s body.
Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority accepted Jinky's application for residency status.
Gilad was buried in Gan Yavne’s cemetery.
