“Why are you slapping me? “

Mansour family

On Saturday morning, terrorists broke into the Mansour couple's home. At the age of 86, and unable to fight back, Shlomo Mansour was abducted to the Gaza Strip. His wife Mazal shook a terrorist off her, went to her neighbor Rachel, and was saved. Shlomo is still held captive in Gaza

When the red alerts start, Mazal and Shlomo Mansour enter the safe room in their home. The two, who have been married for nearly 60 years, are the parents of five children and grandparents to 12 grandchildren. Shlomo, born in Iraq, immigrated to Israel as a teenager, after surviving the Farhud riots, and at the age 16 was one of the founders of Kissufim

Shlomo was going to visit his daughter Moshit that morning. At 07:24 they chat on the phone, in what would turn out to be the last call that day. “They changed our plans,” he tells her, adding that the sequence of alerts seems unusual to him

A squad of Hamas terrorists shoots at the door of the Mansour family's house. Shlomo, who had just left the safe room for a moment, runs back inside. Mazel runs away towards the bathroom

“Why? He's an old man, he didn't do anything,” Mazal tells the terrorists. Shlomo repeats after her and also confronts the squad that entered his house

The terrorists order the couple to leave their home. One of the terrorists pulls Mazal by her shoulder and she shakes him off her. The terrorist leaves her, steals her car and drives away from the house. Several of the terrorists drag Shlomo towards the exit from the kibbutz. Shlomo, who turned 86 in March 2024, is the oldest abductee kidnapped from Israel on that Saturday. Since that day no sign of life has been received from him

Fearing that the terrorists will return, Mazal leaves her house and knocks on her neighbor Rachel's door. The latter recognizes Mazal's voice, opens the door for her, and locks it immediately. The two enter the safe room and hide there along with Rachel's two daughters. Immediately afterward, at 07:46, Rachel calls the head of the local emergency team (Tsachi) and reports that Shlomo has been kidnapped

“Mazal, Mazal,” the terrorists call politely. Mazal, and Rachel's daughter, who is staying with them in the safe room, realize that they are terrorists, not her husband Shlomo. They do not open the door and are saved
