In 2014, the Zadikevitch family took part in a news interview, speaking about a hypothetical terrorist infiltration of their kibbutz. "We'll just run to the car and drive away. It's the only chance to stay alive," said Omer, the family's father. On October 7, he tried to do exactly that—but was murdered beside his car

Omer Zadikevitch (50) wakes to the sound of red alert sirens in Kibbutz Kfar Aza and rushes to his safe room. His four children—Liran (26), Netali (23), Lior (20), and Gali (16)—are not in the kibbutz, nor is his ex-wife, Orit. Omer works as the Director of the Information Systems Department for the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. Amid the alarms, he receives a call from council staff, asking him to come to the situation room and fix a technical fault. During the attack, he stays in touch with his daughter Netali, who keeps checking on his safety. Nine years earlier, in 2014, the Zadikevitch family took part in a news report in which a scenario of terrorists infiltrating the kibbutz was discussed. "We'll just run to the car and drive. It's the only chance to stay alive," said Omer at the time
While Omer shelters in the safe room, three terrorists break into his house through the back door. They take a few steps inside but, for reasons unknown, quickly leave. It seems Omer neither hears them nor realizes they had entered his home
Omer leaves the safe room and prepares to leave the house. Standing at the front door with a bag on his back, he calls his neighbour, Ziv Matzliach, to ask whether he should flee or stay—but Ziv is abroad and unaware of the situation in the kibbutz. Moments later, Omer’s daughter, Netali, sends him a message warning of a possible terrorist infiltration. It’s unclear if he ever saw it
A few minutes later, Omer decides to flee. He opens the door, glances in both directions and sprints towards the driveway
As Omer heads towards his vehicle, he encounters terrorists who open fire on him. It remains unclear whether he was shot before reaching his car or after managing to get inside
The moment Omer leaves his house, all contact with him is lost. Throughout the day, his family desperately tries to call and message him. They eventually manage to trace the location of his mobile phone—to the parking area near his apartment in the kibbutz. For hours, it’s the only clue they have
Unaware of her father’s fate, Netali keeps trying to reach him, sending message after message. Later, a soldier stationed in the kibbutz calls Omer’s son, Liran, and informs him that he identified Omer’s body by his tattoos
Officials notify Omer's family of his murder
A funeral service is held at Sde Warburg, where army troops bring Omer’s body for burial in Kibbutz Kfar Aza cemetery. He is laid to rest beside his father, Yoel, who passed away a month before the October 7th attack
