Captive in Gaza, Yotam managed to escape along with Alon Shamriz and Sammer al-Talalka. IDF force shot dead all three of them by accident

Yotam Haim wakes up to alarms. He got up excitedly for a day he was looking forward to, as on Saturday night he was due to perform with his band at a metal festival in Tel Aviv
Yotam uploads videos to social media of him chuckling at the situation and drumming in his room while the terrorists are in the Kibbutz. At this point, the fighting is relatively remote, so Yotam does not understand the proportions of the event
Many terrorists infiltrate the “Young Generation” neighborhood in which he lives, breaking into apartments using explosive charges, shooting everywhere inside the houses, kidnapping many of the occupants and setting fire to some of the apartments
Yotam sends messages to his family, saying that he is afraid: “Soon they will tear up my whole house. I smell smoke.” They send in response supportive messages: “We are with you”, “We love you. Be strong”
Yotam sends his final message to his family: “I love you if I don't survive this.” His brother Tuval writes to him in response: “I love you”
Yotam is led shirtless by four armed terrorists in the fields outside the Kibbutz. They take him into a car with about 20 other armed terrorists and a Toyota pickup truck beside them

IDF forces arrive at the building where the three hostages were being held by Hamas terrorists, not knowing that there are hostages being held there. An Oketz Canine Unit dog was sent into this structure and was killed from the terrorists' gunfire. Alon, a veteran of the Yahalom unit, knew that the dog had a GoPro camera installed on its vest and shouted along with Yotam for help! Hoping the soldiers will rescue them

Iris Haim, in a direct message to the IDF fighters who were involved in the killing of Yotam and his comrades: I love you very much... It's not your fault at all... You have to protect yourselves, because that's the only way you can protect us. In response to this message, a soldier from 17th Battalion told her: We got your message - and we are back to function
