As the shooting begins, Ido, his wife Noa, and their five-year-old son Guy enter the kibbutz. The three-year-old twins are already at Noa's parents' home in the country's center. His father, a major in the reserves and a native of the kibbutz, tells his wife that this is an unusual sequence of alerts

Ido and Noa hear the sounds of gunfire inside the kibbutz and leave the safe room to check on what is happening. They notice that the window of the house has sustained several bullet holes and realize that the terrorists are next to them. At the time, Ido was supposed to have joined the security squad on the kibbutz, so he was already a member of its WhatsApp group. He tells Elia Levental, the kibbutz Ravshatz (security coordinator) who at the time was already fighting the terrorists, that the remaining members of the security squad should be armed as soon as possible.

After about an hour of catching up on the fighting through the security squad's WhatsApp group, Ido asks Noa: “Do you think I should go out to help Elia?.“ Noa immediately agrees. Both still do not realize that by this time, several dozen terrorists have already infiltrated the kibbutz.

Ido joins the security squad which had five members. He receives the weapon of one of the members who was wounded earlier and could not take part in the fighting. Ido corresponds with Noa continuously and updates her that he has received a weapon.

The security squad has only four members this morning, and they are joined by four more armed residents. The defending force spots dozens of terrorists - 30 according to an IDF investigation - in the orchards north of the kibbutz. Heavy gunfire ensues. The defending force manages to stop the terrorists' advance and kill some of them, but under the cover of the heavy fire, several terrorists manage to infiltrate the kibbutz

Given their numerical disadvantage, members of the security squad conduct a containment battle and focus on trying to prevent more terrorists from infiltrating the kibbutz. After about an hour of fighting, the fighters encounter at close range a squad of terrorists along the line of houses adjacent to the fence. During the exchange of fire, Ido is shot directly in the head. Oded Lavie, a member of the emergency squad, drags him from the combat zone towards a nearby house. He contacts Zohar, Ido's father, who acts as a medic and ambulance driver. Zohar immediately exits the safe room, takes his medic's bag and runs to the location.

Zohar arrives on the scene while there is still an exchange of fire. He realizes that his son is seriously injured and calls the Magen David Adom (MDA) to get medical help. He is joined by a neighbor who helps him bring an ambulance but notices that the wheels of the vehicle are riddled with bullet holes. Ido drives his ambulance through the gunfire back to the house where Ido had been fighting.

After more than six hours, during which Zohar sat by his slain son, he decides to inform the family of the son's death. “I wanted to stay with him, a few more minutes with him,” Zohar explained choosing to stay by his side for the last few hours. He leaves the family home where Ido's body lay and goes to Noa's house to tell her. At the time, Ido's mother, his little sister Inbar, and her spouse are also in the house. Family members stay together in the safe room until the IDF authorizes departure from the kibbutz the next day
