Odaya and Dolev Swissa left Sderot with their two daughters, Romi and Lia, and immediately ran into a van with terrorists. The parents were shot, their two daughters were later saved by a citizen next to the Sderot police station.

      A van packed with terrorists passes the Swissa family's car by Shamir Square, near the southern exit from the city, and opens fire at them. The car stops, and in an attempt to save their lives, the father and mother split up as they each take one child with them. Dolev takes Romi and runs with her towards the square, straight at the terrorists who turned in his direction. The terrorists shoot Dolev at close range, and he falls. Dolev talks to his daughter Romi, who wasn't hurt.

        Romi walks towards her mother and sister as her father Dolev talks to her as she walks away. When Odaya notices her, she picks her up, and together with Lia, they get into the running car. At the same time, a policeman named Shmuel Golima passes by the square, notices the injured Dolev and talks with him. Another private vehicle pulls up next to them, and Dolev gets up independently and gets into a vehicle that evacuates him to the city's Magen David Adom station. Odaya drives in reverse toward the square with both girls.

            A civilian named Amer Abu Sabila drives by in his pickup truck. Officer Golima asks that he drive the mother and her daughters to the police station. Amer gets into the car and follows Golima with Odaya and the two girls

                Amer drives behind Golima's car and together they reach the police station area. There, they encounter an ambush by numerous terrorists, who shoot and kill Golima, Odaya, and Amer. After shooting at the car, a terrorist approaches and dead-checks the adult passengers. Girls Romi and Lia sit in the back seat of the family car, covered by a blanket.

                  Dolev, injured, is evacuated to the city's Magen David Adom station, and from there he is evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. On the way to the hospital, Dolev asks about the fate of his wife and daughters. His death was determined later in the day at the hospital in Ashkelon.

                  The girls cry out for help from inside the vehicle, but their voices are not heard due to the bustle and sounds of battle near the police station. Officer Sergeant Aharon Amar notices a head sticking out of the rear window of the car. He reaches the vehicle under fire and talks to Romi. She asks: “Are you of Israel?" afraid he is a terrorist. He leaves the girls in the car after instructing them to bend over and continues fighting.

                    A member of the municipal security squad and prison service worker, Yair Avinoam, reaches the vehicle under fire to rescue the girls. While grenades are being thrown at him, he picks Lia up in his hands, grabs Romi's hand, and evacuates them far away from the police station.

                        With the girls in a relatively safe place, Yair Avinoam meets a citizen named Yinon. He transfers the girls to Yinon, and the latter takes them to his house. Together with his family members, they all stay closed in the safe room
