On the morning of October 7th, 84-year-old Elma Avraham woke up to the sound of alarms. Home alone, she immediately went into the safe room. The terrorists broke in, injuring her hand. She was abducted to Gaza, bleeding. Released from captivity after 51 days, unconscious, with a body temperature of 28 degrees, she eventually recovered.

As the missile barrages begins, Elma enters the safe room in her house alone. She complies with the pleas of her daughter, Tali, and takes the medication with her into the safe room

While locked in the safe room, Elma contacts family and friends. Her son, Uri Ravitz, calls her and she tells him that terrorists have infiltrated Nahal Oz

    Elma sends a voice message to her friend Daniela: “Thanks for the concern, they say there's been an infiltration of terrorists but it is in another neighborhood. Anyway, I can hear gunshots”

    Elma returns to chat with her son Uri and tells him that she can hear gunshots near her home

    Elma manages to tell her friend, who also lives in Nahal Oz, on the phone: “I have terrorists inside the house.” Then, the conversation breaks off. Elma tightens her grip on the door handle of the safe room to prevent the terrorists from entering - which causes internal bleeding in her hands.

    The terrorists break in through the door of the safe room and Elma is pushed back. She receives a strong blow to her left hand. One of the terrorists sees that she is bleeding, takes a personal bandage out of his pocket, and bandages her hand.

    Just before she is kidnapped to Gaza, Elma takes the medicine bag with her. The terrorists put her in a car, reach the entrance gate to the kibbutz, and then transfer her to a motorcycle. Through the fields, driving wildly, they abduct her to Gaza.

      An angry mob chases the speeding motorcycle that carries Elma. She is splashed with spirits that hits her hand. After a short drive, she is placed in an office while terrorists guard the front door to prevent civilians from entering. Elma hears dozens of citizens asking to enter but are refused.

      The terrorists move Elma from the mosque to the home of a Gazan family with six children. Upon her arrival, she is left to shower. It will be her last shower throughout her captivity

      Roy Avraham, Elma's son who also lives in Nahal Oz and spent the day in his neighbor's apartment, is rescued by the IDF force and sets out in search of his mother. Two soldiers accompany him to Elma's house, which he finds broken into and in a mess. He sees that the safe room door is open and the bed is unmade.

      Elma's family members discover that she has been kidnapped through a photo posted on Telegram, in which she is seen with a blue shirt and a bandaged hand, riding a motorcycle and surrounded by terrorists. The image was edited by Hamas, as the woman sitting next to her on the motorcycle is actually a terrorist.

      The day after the kidnapping, Elma is lowered through an opening into one of the tunnels wearing a hijab. She is kept there alone throughout her days of captivity in harsh conditions of neglect.

      Elma returns from captivity after 51 days in a critical condition. In the prisoner release video, she is seen being carried by Hamas terrorists, who transfer her unconscious to the Red Cross with a body temperature of 28 degrees and a pulse of 40. Elma is airlifted by emergency flight to Soroka Hospital, where they fight for her life.
