On Simchat Torah morning, artist and silversmith Yona Fricker heard terrorists outside her home but couldn’t lock the safe room. Her partner, Mordechai Nave, came to help and was murdered on the way. Yona was also murdered. Her remains were found thirty days later in her burned safe room

Sirens wake 69-year-old Yona in her home in Kibbutz Be’eri’s "Olives" neighborhood, and she rushes into her safe room. Her partner of 23 years, Mordechai Nave, who lives in the "Tamarisks" neighborhood on the opposite side of the kibbutz, also takes shelter in his safe room. yona has three daughters—Aviv, Sigal, and Stav. Sigal, her middle daughter, also lives in Be’eri, with her husband and children

At 6:45 a.m., the first terrorists break into Kibbutz Be’eri. About fifteen minutes later, residents receive an alert urging them to enter their safe rooms and remain quiet. Yona moves into her safe room but discovers the door won’t lock. She speaks with her youngest daughter, Stav, telling her she’s inside the safe room and that she can hear constant explosions outside

Yona’s eldest daughter, Aviv, calls to check on her. Yona takes the call and whispers that she can’t speak. It is presumed that at this point, the terrorists are already inside Yona's house

Yona speaks with her partner, Mordechai, telling him she can’t lock the safe room door and that she hears terrorists inside her house. Mordechai leaves his own safe room and drives toward her home on his mobility scooter, while fighting rages in the kibbutz streets between the local security squad and the terrorists

Riding his mobility scooter, Mordechai encounters terrorists near Yona’s house and is shot in his left hand. He manages to escape and drives along the road dividing the Olives and Veterans neighborhoods. Near one of the houses, he spots two members of the security squad—Yuval Weiss and Dor Harari—who pull wounded Mordechai inside the house. They treat him, bandage his wound, and return to their positions at the front of the house to hold back the terrorists. Meanwhile, Aviv sends her mother anxious messages: “Just write that you’re okay,” she pleads. At 8:40, Yona replies with only one message—that she can’t speak

At 9:12, Yona texts her daughter Stav that she’s in the safe room. Soon after, they speak on the phone, and Yona whispers that the terrorists are inside the house, and she can’t talk. The terrorists destroy the house and set it ablaze. It burns to the ground while Yona remains inside the safe room. Meanwhile, Aviv continues to message her mother

After a prolonged battle, the terrorists storm the building from multiple directions, reach Mordechai, and shoot him dead. His phone is stolen and taken to the Gaza strip. Later, the terrorists set fire to the row of houses where Mordechai had sought refuge
